Summer is raging on and so are we. Covid can't even slow us down. Alright, maybe a little. We didn't get to do any events this summer so that's been a disappointment. And the ice cream rides. Well we still have a group that goes on a ride every Tuesday but stopping and getting food as a large group has been a challenge. We've been doing a lot of trike conversations though. We just completed a firefighter's edition trike last week. Wow. Did that ever shine. We have 3 more lined up still. That is always a great feeling. The goal is to get a few trikes on our show room. One of the conversations will be a showroom trike but last time I had a trike on the floor it lasted 2 days.
This summer has been challenging but we are moving forward. Another positive at the shop has been the addition of Mike to our team. This old school bike brings decades of experience. Mike has been working closely with Chuck Jr. to get the bikes and trikes serviced quickly and effectively. Our high school star athlete Bryce has been pitching in around the shop too. First hired for the summer to do some painting and maintenance to the building this fine young man made himself valuable to the guys in the back in need of assistance. Its nice having a few extra hands around when things get busy.
Finally, we saved the best most exciting news for last. The AMA amateur nationals were held at the end of July. This year Thumb Motorcycle Chrome was able to sponsor a fantastic rider. After several years of hiatus, "Smokin' Joe" Boulis made his return to racing last year. Over the last year he built 2 race bikes including a beautiful framer. We were able to provide Smokin' Joe with a great deal on some parts and equipment including a sick Arai helmet. Smokin Joe took those 2 bikes down to nationals and won 2 half mile races, placed second in another half mile, and rolled to a smooth 3rd on the TT. This allowed for him to take home the overall AMA national title for the veterans 25+ class. We could not be anymore proud of Smokin' Joe and the amount of work he has put into racing and winning. Congratulations Smokin' Joe.
